Bombay cat
The Bombay cat is a bit like the black panther of domestic cats. Originating from the United States, the breed first appeared in the 1960s thanks to a cross between a black American shorthair and a sable Burmese. The initial goal was to allow everyone to have their own miniature panther.
The Bombay cat is known for its uniformly black shorthair coat. It is a muscular and medium cat with large round golden or copper eyes.
This cat breed is described by Bruce Fogle, vet and author of several pet care books, as a friendly cat that seeks human contact. It is also playful and agile, sometimes even referred to as a dog cat.
Did you know? The breed is recognized by TICA (The International Cat Association) and CFA (Cat Fanciers’ Association) but is not yet recognized by FIFe (Fédération internationale féline).
